Novice Orientation Program

Our NOP Sponsored by JenningsGP

We started this program to give those who have never tried a track day (for whatever the reason) a chance to come out and join us without any of the pressure, nervousness, or cost that may have been preventing you from joining us on the track.

This program is sponsored by JenningsGP and is completely FREE with no obligation what-so-ever. This program has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to learn what the other side of this sport is all about.

We know that once you try this program you WILL end up doing a track day. Whether it is with us (gottrack.net) or with any other organizer, we would be happy to know that you gave it a try. And what you thought.

Our Philosophy

Here you see a student going through the 3rd session of the Novice Orientation Program, which is the last session. At this point the student (Matt) is practicing some body position on an instructors bike on stands. This prepares him for what he will expect and things to look for when he decides to take to the track. Matt finished off the weekend by riding for the remainder of Saturday and Sunday.

Now we will walk you through how the Novice Orientation Works.

This program is for people (Men and Women over the age of 15) that have never done a trackday and would like to see what a trackday is all about. This is at no obligation to ride, there is no catch, no pressure to sign up for the trackday.

The program will consist of the following for all participants:

  • Arrive at the track between 7:00-7:30AM. Please note Jennings charges a $5.00 gate fee to everyone entering the premises.
  • At 7:30 the orientation will begin at the trackshop (see maps below for details).
  • Initial orientation will provide locations of the Jennings facilities so you can see where everything is located.
  • Next, we will proceed to take you step by step through the tech inspection process of a motorcycle. This will allow you to get familiar with the process and what the tech inspectors are looking for. This will allow you to become comfortable with the process and to and be prepared next time.
  • After tech we will proceed to the registration tower and we will walk you through the steps for registration.
  • After registration we will proceed to the track shop. Here you will see that many things as far as the required safety gear and what is available for rent.
  • We will meet outside the track shop at approximately 8:15AM and you will now join us for our daily riders meeting. You will then attend the riders meeting with the rest of the trackday participants and will learn what to expect when you decide to join in the fun.
  • Lastly, you will be introduced to the control riders and the roles that they each play during the course of the event.
  • You have now done everything that you will need to do when you do your first trackday. We hope that this orientation will help to prepare you for your first trackday.

    BUT, you aren't done yet!

  • We will now proceed into the classroom where we will cover some of the basics behind your first few laps on the track. This classroom session will last about 10 minutes.
  • Next you will be encouraged to go out and watch 2 sessions. There will be groups out riding and you will be able to view them from a variety of corners. This will last between 30-40 minutes.
  • We will then proceed back to the classroom where we will now discuss some additional track information. Some of the topics discussed will be: weighting the pegs, reference points, breaking markers, etc. as well as things to expect. Again, this will last about 10 minutes.
  • As with the previous track observation you will now have about 30 minutes to witness the current sessions that are on the live track.
  • Lastly, we will hold one final classroom session. In this classroom session we will cover other tips, things to avoid, examples, and some rider tips that will help you. Please feel free to ask questions at any time during the course of the orientation.
  • This should bring us to about lunch time. Your FREE Novice Orientation Program is completed. You are welcomed to remain, hang out, watch the sessions, ask questions etc...

The extended program sponsored by JenningsGP will allow you to enter the remainder of the trackday at half of the normal price. If you brought your bike and want to enroll you will simply need to let a got track or JenningsGP staff member know and we will allow you to sign up.

You will simply follow all of the same steps that you walked through in the morning. Should you join the remainder of the day you session will go as follows:

  • First session after lunch you will be accompanied by 2 control riders (one leading and one following) for your first 2 laps at which time you will experience the sample pit in and pit out process. After those 2 laps the remainder of the Novice group will be let on the track. But your group will be accompanied by those 2 control riders for the entire session, ensuring your comfort and safety.
  • After this first session we will proceed back to the classroom briefly to discuss things you should have noticed and answer any questions you may have.
  • Second session will be the same as the first. EXACTLY.
  • You're now free to ride as you please for the remainder of the day.
  • At this point, you have now completed your first trackday!!!

    Welcome to your newest addiction!!

You are welcomed to sign up for the second day as well. Please find a staff member and we will sign you up.

Be sure to ask LOTS of questions!
